GNREGISTRY ID: BGN00395A - Nick Ihnat

CLASS: FSS - Factory Stock Show

PART A - OWNERSHIP: First of all, thank you for nominating me to receive this award.  I have been a Buick enthusiast for many years.  My first Buick was a 1978 Buick Regal with the Chevy 305.  Since then I have owned just about Buicks and nothing else.  Currently, I drive a Chevy Impala because that is what my company offers as a company car.

I purchased my GN back in September of 1984.  There are many screwy things about my car.  First of all, my car was produced back in September of 1983.  After it was produced, the car disappeared for about 6 months.  It may have been a back up to the show circuit, but it also was at the GM Tech center.  The canister has some hand scribed numbers on it and the radiator shield has been partially removed.  Also, when I picked up the car, each side of the car had two different lug nuts on it.  I have not done any modifications to the car.  Just the maintenance that is required of a 20 year old car.

Currently, the car has 29568 miles on it.  Lately, I have been enjoying it more with my daughters.  The two main reasons that the car has low mileage is because:

1)  When I got married, the car was paid for.  After kids, the car went into storage.  I was not going to fight the 2 doors with little kids and I didn't want it trashed.

2)  At the time, my wife abused cars and I refused to let her drive it.  It pissed her off.  To save a argument, I just kept the car in storage after the girls got older.  Well, let me put it to you this way, the wife is gone and still have the car.

I think the car was in storage for a total of about 12 years.  Currently, I do a average of about 800 to 1000 miles a year on the car.

PART B -MOTOR:  The motor is 100% bone stock.  Changed valve cover gaskets and plugs, that is it.

PART C - TRANNY:  The transmission is stock also.  At about 23,000 miles, I had to have it rebuilt.  The TV cable messed up and I lost 3rd and 4th gear.  I had it put back to factory specs.

PART D - SUSPENSION:  The suspension and wheels are stock.  I still have the original springs and shocks on the car.  The tires were replace around 22,000 miles.  I did put on the car Goodyear GT II's with raised white letters.  I still have the original GT's that came on the car.

PART E - BODY & PAINT:  Body, Paint and interior is stock.  Again with having a 21 year old -- car things do break down.  Just this week, I had the head liner and visors redone.

PART F - PERFORMANCE: Never been down the track.  Don't know.

PART G - OTHER: Some of the other things done to the car are I installed a Chapman Security system back in 1984 and I also had the VIN number etched on all the glass.

Last year, I replaced the factory exhaust system with a mandrel bent 2.5 system that I purchased from the GSCA.  Great system!  I also removed the converter at this time.  Even though in Ohio we have inspections, my car is exempt.  I have on the car collector plates and this exempts me from emission testing.

Currently, the air doesn't work on the car.  I need to get the compressor rebuilt and the system charged.  Being a single father, funds are tight and don't have the money.

When something does go wrong on the car, I try to rebuild the original part to keep it on the car.  I try not to replace anything.

Thank you again.

Nick Ihnat
